The tradition of yoga was developed for a very different time and a very different daily life in the body. It cannot give us what we need. We are deeply materialised and hungry for spirit, we need to practice movement which develops transparency and meaning.

In our culture we are busy with the physical and material, the spiritual aspect of life is denied. We are physically hardened and calcified yet our desire for spirit makes us seek out solutions, like yoga. But the tradition of yoga was developed for a very different time in history and a very different daily life in the body. It cannot give us what we need in this day and age.

Historically Hatha Yoga was practiced to incarnate the spirit deeper into the physical body. It grew at a time when people denied the physical body, they were mainly in contact with the spirit of things.

We are at an opposite point in history. As well as acknowledging the physical body, we are now at a time where we need to get in touch with the spiritual side of our selves. Stretch enables us to do this work. Stretch is the fundament of movement. Through stretch we move, we learn to understand what moves the human being and we begin this work of weaving the spirit back into the body.
